About FATRA

FATRA is a creative waste management brand focused on reintroducing existing materials back into production with a goal of reducing textile and single-use plastic waste. FATRA believes that design justice and regenerative circular systems will exponentially heal our environment and alleviate injustices such as extreme poverty and sweat shop slavery. The company’s founder Akilah Stewart has used fashion as a catalyst for social and environmental activism for an upward of 10 years. Her signature handbags embody ethical futurism - infusing repurposed plastic containers as the body of the bag, intricately accented with quality upcycled leather, tassels, lace, and metal adornments. Akilah has led mending, upcycling, and natural dye workshops throughout the country. She has also implemented upcycling programs throughout the globe from places such as New York City; Port Au Prince, Haiti; Bali, Indonesia; and Florence, Italy with the goal of educating consumers on how to create from waste, as well as, how to create less of it [waste]. Under Akilah’s leadership, FATRA is a luxury sustainable fashion powerhouse, and an expert in creative waste design. FATRA, the Haitian Creole word for “trash” is a global leader in the sustainable fashion movement and continues to challenge mainstream ideas while fostering an evolution of radical elegance and eclectic statement pieces. This brand is only going to scale as consumers and companies invest in conscious living.
